* You need 100% of your recommended daily allowances (RDA) to be healthy. It is almost impossible to do that with food alone. You have to eat 3000 calories of perfectly balanced food to do that (expensive, lots of calories, time consuming).

 

* Importance of protein: Protein helps your brain function, sustains lean muscle mass (more muscle = burn more calories. Muscle burns 14 calories/hr. Fat burns about 2 cal/hr), keeps your blood sugar stable throughout the day, and helps reduce hunger cravings. Soy protein is a slow burning protein that helps feed your muscles slowly and consistently. It is great for controlling hunger. Whey protein helps give your muscles a burst of nutrients but burns off quickly. It is great pre-workout. Soy protein is better for weight loss and post workout.

 

* Breakfast: Why it is the most important meal of the day?

 

* Say you eat dinner around 7pm, go to bed, wake up at 7am. Your body has been without nourishment for 12 hours. You lose 1-1.5 liters of water/night when you sleep. Your body needs water, nutrients, and fuel for the day. It is in a very sensitive state in the AM and needs food ASAP. If you wait more than 45 min to have breakfast, your body goes into starvation/survival mode. It thinks there must not be food available in the environment since you have not fed it. Thus, your body slows down your metabolism so that you can conserve what energy you have and expend fewer calories. It also starts eating muscle because muscle has better nutrients than fat, and it stores fat. Sugars and carbs are stored as fat for future energy needs (in case you keep starving it – your body doesn't know you plan to feed it in a few hours).

 

* You want to eat no more than 30-40 min after you wake up. If you eat carbs for breakfast, you are spiking your blood sugar and put your body in fat storage mode. When you eat a balanced, protein based breakfast, you are jump-starting your metabolism, getting a balanced meal, and keeping your blood sugar stable, thus keeping your body in fat burning mode.

 

* Thus, many diets that deprive you of nutrients through controlling calorie intake are actually causing you to lose lean muscle mass more than fat. This leads to “skinny fat” where a person may look skinny but they have little to no muscle and still have a high body fat %. This also slows your metabolism because fat burns fewer calories (2 cal/hr) than muscle (14 cal/hr). Overall, it is not healthy and will affect energy levels, immune system, bone health, and so much more.

* Cell-U-Loss – Helps skin stay tight around body as we lose weight so that you don't get that loose skin that occurs when people lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time. * Snacks – It is important you eat at least 5 times a day to keep your blood sugar stable and keep your body in fat burning (not fat storing) mode. Snacks should be protein based with some complex carbs (think apple with low-fat peanut butter). Females should eat at least 6-10g/protein each snack and males at least 10-15g. A quick, easy, well-balanced snack is an Herbalife protein bar for $1.20 each. Prob not gonna find a cheaper protein bar or snack (i.e. yogurt) for much less.
